Abstract

In this paper, I propose a different way of understanding the expression political theology. I argue that political theology is a useful expression for it contributes to the discussion on democracy and political representation crisis. My motivation is the third part of Fernando Atria’s book La forma del derecho. Discussing this text, I point out the compatibility of Atria’s proposal with that of others thinkers who have considered Carl Schmitt’s work, and contractualism. Finally, I argue that the meaning of political theology has to be associated with other concepts, in particular with laicism, legal system and recognition. Only in this way, it is useful for our community life.
