The expulsion and cancellation of enrollment in chile as a school security policy

Abstract

Since the end of the civic-military dictatorship in Chile, modifications have been made to the regulations governing punitive measures and sanctions that can marginalize students from school. In this research, we aim to examine how have been incorporated into this process expulsion or cancellation of enrollment measures as security policies in Chilean schools. To do this, we reviewed laws, decrees, and policy documents in the field of School Coexistence from the year 2000 to the present. A transition can be observed, from the initial regulations that sought to stop the excesses and abuses permitted by the legislation inherited from the military regime, towards regulations framed within a paradigm of a safe school, which emerged in the context of secondary student mobilizations.
