Abstract

The capacity demonstrated by the newly industrializing Asian countries to achieve their development and adapt to structural changes in the world economic system has led specialists to examine in greater detail the economies of Southeast Asia, their development processes and their forms of insertion in the world economy, wondering about the feasibility and convenience of applying these models and experiences in Latin America. This paper emphasizes the analysis of the process in South Korea, a country that has been described in many works as an outstanding example of the success of an export-oriented economy model, while others have severely criticized it, considering that model, in essence, an equivalent to that previously established between developing countries and the world market, based on exports of raw materials.
