Abstract

The objective is reflecting, as an essay, on our own academic practices and the naturalizations we make at the moment of “denaturalizing”, inquiring into the words used to both name something and to build a reality (from our discipline, often considered as the expert knowledge). Although initially aimed at systematizing some perspectives on studies performed on male and female young people, the need for a distinction between the perspectives of studies on youngsters and youth studies took over. In addition, the interchangeability of the terms youth, youths and youngsters in specialized reference of the field has pushed for drawing clear distinctions among such concepts.
